Much is made by the manufacturers about only using their cartridges in their printers. It is shown in reports that if you print a couple of pictures and pages of text each week you could expect to spend around £250.00 per year using manufacturers cartridges against approximately £80.00 for generic cartridges. A sign of how expensive manufacturers cartridges are, is in a report where it is shown that there is a healthy trade in counterfeit manufacturers cartridges. The counterfeiters consider fake printer ink are as profitable to sell as selling fake Rolex's.
